Listed below is a list of Enfield Board of Education subcommittees.  Subcommittees will report back to the entire Board with their recommendations, except for the expulsion committee. 

2009-11 Committee Appointments

** Adult Education

 

Donna Szewczak

Membership:  1 BOE Representative.

Meetings:  Quarterly.

Purpose:  Non-voting Board liaison to adult education program.

** Alternative Education

 

Peter Jonaitis

Membership:  1 BOE Representative.

Meetings:  As scheduled by the committee.

Purpose:  Investigate alternative education programs that will provide the highest degree of impact for the students and will capture the greatest return on investment.  Report findings to the Board.

Building Security

Chuck Johnson

Membership:  2 BOE Representatives.

Meetings:  As sheduled by the committee.

Purpose:  Board liaisons to committee.

** CREC Delegate

(Capitol Region Education Council)

 

Joyce Hall

Membership:  1 BOE Representative.

Meetings:  Monthly (luncheon) – Hartford.

Purpose:  Voting liaison between local Boards and CREC.  CREC explores opportunities for regional cooperative education programs, to improve the quality of public education.

Curriculum

Membership:  4 or less BOE Representatives, Curriculum Directors.

Meetings:  Monthly (day & time to be scheduled).

Purpose:  To review curriculum related issues.

** E-Newsletter/ Communication

 

Charles L. Johnson

Membership:  1 BOE Representative.

Meetings:  None.

Purpose:  To proved the Town’s residents and interested people in the area with information of events within the individual schools, which will be placed on the website (enfieldschools.org), and upcoming public meetings of the Board of Education, and its subcommittees.  Information will be provided to the area media centers for these meetings, and will also be posted on the enfieldschools.org website.

EHS Safe Graduation Liaison

 

Vincent Grady

Membership:  1 BOE Representative per high school.

Meetings:  As called by SAFE Graduation Committee.

Purpose:  Board liaison to committee.

Expulsion Committee

 

All BOE Members

Membership:  3 or more BOE Representatives (all Board members can attend).

Meetings:  As scheduled.

Purpose:  To determine expulsion status for pupils as recommended by administration.

Finance Committee

Meetings:  Monthly (day & time to be scheduled).

Purpose:  Reviews monthly expenditures, budget status, cafeteria financial statements and account/financial procedures.

Gifted & Talented

Membership:  2 BOE Representatives.

Meetings:  As scheduled by the committee.

Purpose:  Investigate Gifted and Talented programs that will provide the highest degree of impact for the student sand will capture the greatest return on investment.  Report findings to the Board.

** Head Start Policy Committee

Membership:  1 BOE Representative.

Meetings:  Monthly, 2nd Wednesday at 9:45 AM.

Purpose:  Voting liaison between Board and Head Start Program; reviews progress and financial status of local program, updated on proposed federal and state changes.

** Parliamentarian

Meetings:  None.

Purpose:  To assist and guide the Board of Education in procedures and conduct as it pertains to its regular and special business meetings.

Purpose:  To assist the Board of Education in matters pertaining to school personnel, grievances, and Negotiations.

Policy Committee

Purpose:  Review Board Policies and By-laws.  To identify areas needing update for conformity with changes in local, state or federal laws.

** School Readiness

Meetings:  As scheduled by the committee.

Purpose:  Board representative to (KITE) Committee.

** Suffield Vo-Ag

Purpose:  Non voting liaison to the committee.  Advocate for EPS students attending the Suffield Vo-Ag Program.

** Does not require posting an agenda on behalf of the Board.  Agenda for these meetings are typically set by an administrator or the sponsoring agency.
