Adam Behling – Teacher of the Year

The Enfield Public Schools is pleased to announce Adam Behling has been selected as the 2021 Enfield Teacher of the Year. Mr. Behling is a 7th grade Math teacher at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Middle School.  Because of this distinction, he will be presented at the state level in the Connecticut Teacher of the Year Process.

Mr. Behling was nominated twice, once by Brian Zawodniak and the second by Rachel Grigely, both fellow teachers at JFK.  Mr. Behling has been recognized for his dedication to his students.  He is known for an unbridled level of energy and enthusiasm that he brings to all facets of his school and community.  During the selection process, the Teacher of the Year Committee recognized his creativity in planning hands-on lessons and performance tasks, bringing Math to life with real world and engaging activities.  Mr. Behling prides himself in establishing positive and appropriate relationships with students.  For example, he is often seen at student basketball, soccer and baseball games, and attending other events, in and out of school, in support of all students.  He has worked with Rachel’s Challenge Club to help improve school culture and he is a robotics coach at JFK.  If you have been to any recent pancake breakfasts run by Rachel’s Challenge, you would certainly see him there.  Most recently, due to COVID restrictions limiting in person events, he made phone calls on behalf of Jane’s Team lifting the sprits of students during the holidays.  Mr. Behling is also involved in the greater community, volunteering with Rebuild Together, renovating and repairing elderly, low-income or disabled homeowner’s home exterior, interiors and lawns. Additionally, Mr. Behling spends countless moments assisting students and staff with using technology and educational applications.  With the addition of one-to-one devices in the district, he is taking his free moments to help trouble shoot and assist members of the JFK school community when they face issues related to remote learning.

We are thrilled to share this honor with you and wish Adam the best in his future pursuit at the state level.
